Victory's Pablo Contreras suspended for Adelaide, Brisbane games

The defender will find himself on the sidelines after just one A-League appearance due to his rough treatment of the Heart winger in the Round 1 Melbourne derby
Pablo Contreras will miss Melbourne Victory's A-League matches away to Adelaide United and at home to Brisbane Roar after being punished by the match review panel.

The Chilean centre-back, making his competitive debut in Australian football, caught Melbourne Heart's Mate Dugandzic with an elbow early in the second half of the teams' 0-0 draw at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The incident escaped the notice of referee Peter Green but Victory's marquee international has since been deemed guilty of 'violent conduct when not challenging for the ball' on video review.

He will be forced to sit out two key games, away to fierce rivals Adelaide this Friday and at home to coach Ange Postecoglou's former club the Roar on October 25.

Nick Ansell is likely to partner Adrian Leijer at centre-back in Contreras' absence.
