Rossi sets sights on Italy return

The 26-year-old is eager to force his way back into Cesare Prandelli's plans but insists his primary focus is on regaining full fitness following a calf strain
Fiorentina forward Giuseppe Rossi admits he is eager to earn a call-up to the Italy squad after his excellent early-season form.

The 26-year-old currently sits joint-top of the Serie A goalscorer standings after hitting five in six games for la Viola so far this season.

The former Manchester United man is currently focused on recovering from a calf injury which kept him out of the midweek Europa League win over Dnipro, but he concedes he has one eye on returning to the Azzurri fold under Cesare Prandelli.

"Physically I'm fine, I'm healing and I hope to be there against Lazio," he told Tuttosport. "There'll be an assessment after a few tests in training over the next few days, and then we'll decide.

"I'm always optimistic. Of course I think about a possible Azzurri call-up, but first I must focus on being 100 per cent ready for Sunday's game."

Fiorentina currently sit fifth after the opening six rounds in Serie A, a point ahead of Sunday's opponents Lazio.
