Marcelo brings Champions League experience to Hannover, says Dufner

The club's sporting director is relishing the prospect of the former Santos centre-back adding some experience to their defence as he swaps life in the Eredivisie for Germany
Brazilian defender Marcelo will bring a wealth of experience to Hannover, according to the club's sporting director Dirk Dufner.

Marcelo has signed for the Bundesliga side after three seasons with PSV.

The 26-year-old, who began his career back in Brazil with Santos, signed a four-year contract with Die Roten after moving for an undisclosed fee and will link up with his new team-mates for the first time on Tuesday.

“He brings European experience with him with appearances in the Europa League as well as in the Champions League qualifiers and he has also played in the top leagues in Netherlands, Poland and Brazil,” Dufner told the club's website.

Coach Mirko Slomka also chipped in with his delight that the deal had gone through, adding, “Marcelo was a regular starter at PSV and has the qualities that you look for in a modern-day central defender: consistent tackling, physical presence and good play from the back.

“I’m delighted he’s decided to join 96.”

Hannover beat Wolfsburg 2-0 in their opening Bundesliga fixture on Saturday and Marcelo could make his debut next weekend when his new employers travel to Borussia Monchengladbach.
