Extra Time: Watch David Beckham continue China tour with half-time children's kickabout

David Beckham may have retired from football but he just cannot stay away from the pitch.

The former England captain, who bowed out after winning Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain last season, made an appearance at half-time in Saturday's Chinese Super League clash between Hangzhou Greentown and Beijing Guoan.

The 38-year-old said hello to an ecstatic crowd before engaging in a brief kickabout with a group of Chinese children, though he was not able to unearth an obvious successor to his sporting throne among the participating kids.

The appearance continued Beckham's visit around China, having caused a stampede at a Shanghai university on Thursday as fans scrambled to get a glimpse of him, with several people injured.

The sight of the former Manchester United star may have inspired the visiting side to better things, turning around a 1-0 half-time deficit to go on and win 2-1.
