The 34-year-old Independiente player was leaving the club's training ground with his son and nephew amongst his passengers when he was stopped by police for a controlled operation.
Rodriguez, who feared he was about to be the victim of a robbery, fled the scene after the policemen apparently failed to identify themselves.
Authorities pursued the former Boca Juniors player who, after colliding with two vehicles, was caught and taken to a police station in Avellaneda and charged with resisting arrest.
The former Deportivo La Coruna defender was voted Paraguay's Player of the Year for 2008.
