PSV defender Erik Pieters was taken to hospital on Friday after punching through a glass window in anger following his dismissal in the Eindhoven side's 3-1 Eredivisie loss at home against PEC Zwolle.
The Netherlands international featured for the first time in an official game since April 2012 after a lengthy injury layoff, but his comeback did not pan out as he was hoping for.
Not only were PSV surprisingly beaten by PEC, but Pieters was also handed a straight red card following a late tackle in midfield in the 67th minute.
The 24-year-old then lost his temper and kicked out at a door on his way to the tunnel, before smashing his arm through a glass window, sustaining cuts that led to his hospitalisation.
PSV dropped to second spot in the league table following Friday's defeat handed Twente top spot.
