In goal, we have Lars Unnerstall, who has been involved in a scrap to become Schalke's first-choice goalkeeper with Timo Hildebrand, but ultimately lost out due to a series of calamitous performances.
The back four is comprised of players from two teams: Augsburg and Hoffenheim. Matthias Ostrzolek and Gibril Sankoh have been regulars in an Augsburg that have conceded 29 goals from their opening 17 games, though that seems impressive compared to the 41 strikes Hoffenheim have shipped with Daniel Williams and Marvin Compper in the team.
Another Augsburg player makes the selection in midfield, in the shape of Andreas Ottl. The 27-year-old is joined by Wolfsburg under-performer Josue and Granit Xhaka of Borussia Monchengladbach, who has failed to live up to expectations since his summer move from Basel.
The front line is manned by a trio who have only mustered a combined four goals this season. Nado Rafael joined Fortuna Dusseldorf as a player with Bundesliga experience, but has done little to show it, while Eren Derdiyok has not been firing for Hoffenheim since his summer move from Bayer Leverkusen. Finally, Eintracht Frankfurt may well be enjoying a dream season, but Olivier Occean has endured a nightmare up front.
