Giovinco: It was important to extend our lead
The forward is of the opinion that the Bianconeri did themselves a great favour by increasing their advantage at the top of Serie A by beating the Orobici at the weekend
Juventus attacker Sebastian Giovinco believes extending the team's lead at the summit of Serie A was the most important positive to take from Sunday's victory over Atalanta. The Bianconeri made short work of the Orobici at the weekend, beating Stefano Colantuono's men 3-0, courtesy of goals from Mirko Vucinic, Andrea Pirlo and Claudio Marchisio.
The Old Lady now have a seven-point advantage over second-placed Inter, and Giovinco believes this victory could prove crucial come the end of the season.
"It was hard, because they are a good team," the 25-year-old is quoted as saying by Tuttosport.
"We had to try and extend our lead over our competitors at any cost and this is what matters," continued Giovinco, who played a crucial role in the victory as he provided the assist for Vucinic's opener.
"What really matters is that we managed to come out of this hard test victorious."
Juventus sit at the top of the Serie A table with 41 points, and their next league game will see them face Cagliari on Friday.
