Window Shopping: Arsenal must strengthen in January but £40m (€49m) will not be enough
Goal.com's Greg Stobart and Peter Staunton are joined by Matt Holland to look at where Arsene Wenger's squad needs improving ahead of the transfer window
After a panic-stricken summer in which Arsene Wenger invested heavily but not wisely, Arsenal must use the January transfer window intelligently to arrest their recent slide and keep the club competing for a top-four spot. The Gunners are expected to make a move for Atletico Madrid striker Adrian and Crystal Palace's wonderkid Wilfried Zaha in the winter window as the Arsenal board hand Wenger a war chest of at least £40 million (€49m).
But that may not even be enough to avert the crisis the Gunners find themselves in following the club's poorest start to a Premier League campaign during Wenger's 16-year tenure. The 63-year-old is facing his toughest spell as the manager of the Emirates Stadium outfit, with questions being posed over his leadership and indeed his eye for talent.
With the state of the squad in disarray at present, would £40m (€49m) even be enough to help Arsenal? Goal.com discuss Arsenal's options.
