The Argentina international heads into his side's Champions League match against Benfica with 84 goals in 2012 for club and country, one behind the Germany legend.
And former Sevilla man Adriano says the main aim for Wednesday is to help Messi break the record.
"We will be with him and will try to do everything possible towards that tomorrow. The goal is to go out and win the match and to see Messi equal the record," he told a press conference.
"It is best not to think about it and to not be obsessed, but to instead play normally. Leo thinks the same, whilst we want to help.
"But, Leo is demonstrating each season that he wants to do his best and in seeing this, especially in light of what he has already achieved, it makes us want to give our best in every game to help make this possible. He is a phenomenon."
Barcelona's 5-1 win over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday saw them break the record for the best-ever start to a La Liga season, and the Brazil international believes that Tito Vilanova's team are as good as the side that Pep Guardiola put together during his four seasons at Camp Nou.
"This team can be compared to the Barcelona of Guardiola, I think so. We are at a very good level, but we still have room for improvement," he said.
"This is what we have tried in every game so far. Last year with Pep we were playing well, but did not have the same luck with the ball."
The wide player also admitted that he would be open to signing a new deal with the Catalan giants and believes that the club are also interested in him putting pen-to-paper on a new contract.
"For my football I am proving that I would sign here for many more years. I think we have had some conversations, things are not very clear, but there is interest, certainly from me, and I also think from the club."
