Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni insists Wesley Sneijder has been left out of the side as a result of footballing reasons and not because of his refusal to sign a new deal at the club.
Sporting director Marco Branca revealed last week that the Netherlands international will not feature for Inter until his contract situation has been resolved, but Stramaccioni says he is the only one making the final decision on whether Sneijder plays.
"I think his situation is more simple than it might seem. The coach has the final say on the matter and I chose not to include him in the squad. It's not a punishment," Stramaccioni said at a press conference.
"I see what goes on in training during the week and when the game comes round I make my choices according to what is best for Inter.
"Anything else you need to ask the club about, I'm not interested in what goes on away from the pitch."
The Nerazzurri reportedly want the 28-year-old to take a pay-cut and sign a one-year extension to his current deal until 2015.
