The Catalans again had the Argentine to thank following his pair of strikes at Camp Nou, although Alex Song also got his name on the scoresheet shortly after Montanes' equaliser.
Nonetheless, the coach was quick to highlight the efficiency of his team's performance on the night in light of the recent midweek internationals, in which many of his squad members were involved.
"They've worked hard today, I acknowledge the strains of midweek internationals," Vilanova said at a press conference after the match.
The result leaves Barcelona eight points clear at the top of the Primera Division.
