Chile boss Borghi insists he is not under pressure

Chile boss Borghi insists he is not under pressure

Latest Arsenal - Aston Villa Preview: Gunners look to bounce back after successive cup defeats at the Emirates Previous

The former Argentina footballer has admitted that there is no ultimatum regarding his job whilst he also backed Alexis Sanchez despite some poor performances for Barcelona

Chile coach Claudio Borghi has revealed there is no pressure on him to get a result in his side's friendly against Serbia on Wednesday despite reports that he could lose his job if the team's fortunes do not change for the better.

The South American outfit currently lie outside the qualification places in the Conmebol 2014 World Cup qualifying table after some disappointing results, but Borghi has insisted after speaking with the Chilean Professional Football Association (ANFP) he is confident he will remain in the job after the Serbia match.

"There was no ultimatum at the meeting with the ANFP," he told Goal.com Chile.

"Now, the day I have to go, the team will remain the same. It will not end with me."

The 48-year-old has also backed his star player Alexis Sanchez to return to his best form after the winger received criticism for some of his displays for Barcelona this season whilst Borghi has been impressed by Arturo Vidal's form for Juventus.

"The games we've seen, Alexis Sanchez has not played as bad as they say. Obviously you can do better, but he's in the best team in the world and that's not easy.

"While Arturo Vidal is making goals, which is a great credit to him. He is playing regularly and that always helps a player."

Chile's World Cup qualifying campaign has been hit by a number of disciplinary problems in the squad, with Borghi having to suspend a total of seven players in the last twelve months, but the former Boca Juniors trainer believes he is doing all he can to help the players stay on the right path.

"I cannot answer for the discipline of the players in their free time. I give advice, but I'm not responsible for them off the pitch.

"When mistakes are made in their private life they are private, but if it affects their focus then I respond. And when that happened we responded accordingly."
