Rene Girard hailed Montpellier's "beautiful performance" after they drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening.
The reigning champions have endured a terrible start to their title defence but at least displayed a fighting spirit against the Ligue 1 leaders in an entertaining contest.
Mamadou Sakho was sent off for the visitors early on, but PSG still took the lead through Maxwell's chip on 37 minutes.
Remy Cabella levelled for the home side, before Younes Belhanda saw red and ensured both sides ended the game with 10 men and Girard was happy with the end result against quality opposition.
"We started better in the second period and we looked very strong," he told FranceFootball.fr.
"It was a beautiful performance, and it was important to hang on. We lost two points tonight, but a lot of teams have not even managed that. This is a good point that will count at the end of the season."
Goalscorer Cabella was equally pleased with a battling point, and praised the character of his team-mates in refusing to give up.
"The goal they scored hurt us a lot," he added.
"We then pushed and pushed, we did not give up and this is important. Against a good team like Paris it is difficult to pass, and we managed to score. Even without [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, they are a very good side.
"We showed our state of mind today, we persevered and got a point."
