The Nerazzurri have recovered from a slow start to the season, winning their past two Serie A games to sit third in the league standings, whilst also seeing off Neftchi Baku in the Europa League on Thursday.
Milan lie in 11th place, nine points from the summit, but picked up a valuable 3-2 away win at Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League on Wednesday, with El Shaarawy scoring his side's second goal in the 16th minute.
"The man of the derby? I have two names. El Shaarawy and Cassano," Colomba told tuttomercatoweb.com.
"The Italo-Egyptian is proving to be a great player, whilst the Inter man can win a match on his own."
The 57-year-old was also asked to give his verdict on the match's outcome.
"Both sides are on the rise after difficult starts," said the former Bologna midfielder. "Both teams are playing well in Italy and abroad.
"Certainly a Champions League win is worth more [in confidence] than a Europa League win, but we must not forget that the Rossoneri will have spent more physically against Zenit," he added.
