Aston Villa move is 'off for now', declares Feyenoord defender Vlaar

After days of speculation, the centre-back believes that a move to Villa Park will not be going ahead despite revealing that the switch would be a "dream come true"

Feyenoord defender Ron Vlaar has claimed that his proposed move to Aston Villa has all but collapsed and that he is now focused solely on playing for the Eredivisie outfit.

The Netherlands international had previously claimed that a move to the Midlands club would be a "dream come true", with Villans manager Paul Lambert also appearing keen to secure his services.

However, the newly appointed boss has seemingly cooled his interest in the centre-back in recent days and it now appears that Vlaar will remain with Feyenoord for the forthcoming campaign.

"Feyenoord is in my heart and I have been through a lot here," he told RTV Rijnmond.

"I think the chance I will move to Aston Villa is not so big anymore.

"I don't want to be kept on a leash, so a transfer is off for now."

Vlaar has been at Feyenoord since moving from AZ in 2005, going on to make over 130 appearances for the club.
