A new scandal has engulfed the peninsula with Zenit St Petersburg defender Domenico Criscito left out of Italy's Euro 2012 squad after his room at the Azzurri's training base in Coverciano was searched by police as part of the match-fixing investigation.
Stekelenburg was sent off twice last season against Juventus and Lazio, and the 29-year-old believes both events should be questioned too.
""I'm sure I would not have gotten [the two red cards] in the Netherlands. Maybe they should check out the referees," he told ANP.
"The cesspool seems at once, to be open. These are messages that you should be scared of."
Meanwhile, Stekelenburg's Oranje team-mate Wesley Sneijder also addressed the unfolding situation in Italy.
"It's suddenly very close [to us]. The prime minister of Italy [Mario Monti] said that the competition should cease for two or three years," he stated.
"But now, I do not want to deal with it. Let me concentrate on the Oranje."
Both Stekelenburg and Sneijder are with the Netherlands squad ahead of Euro 2012. Bert van Marwijk's men will face Northern Ireland in a friendly later on Saturday.
