The 23-year-old centre-back, who can also play as a holding midfielder, had been linked with a transfer to the Spanish club after featuring infrequently for Sporting this season.
However, Monchi claims that Sevilla were unable to convince Carrico to take up a new challenge as the former Portugal Under-21 international remains keen to prove himself at the Estadio de Alvalade.
"We followed Carrico very closely during this season, but the circumstances were very hard," Monchi told Sevilla's TV channel.
"First, because Sporting did not want to let him leave, and then because the player finally decided to stay at the club."
Carrico, who broke into Sporting's first team in 2007, made 38 appearances in all competitions this season, including 26 as a starter.
