The diminutive attacker said that the team will try to give the coach a special farewell with the domestic cup title after they failed to win La Liga and the Champions LeagueBarcelona star Lionel Messi has said that he is looking to win the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao to pay tribute to coach Pep Guardiola's role at the club.
The 41-year-old will step down as Barca coach after the match to take a year-long sabbatical from football.
After Barca failed to retain their Champions League and La Liga titles, Messi believes that winning the Copa del Rey will be the perfect send-off for Guardiola.
"As Pep said, this is a special match because it is a final and because a title is at stake," Messi said in an interview with Qatar Foundation.
"But it would also be great to win the title for Guardiola to leave the way he deserves for what he has given us and the club.
"We were close to winning La Liga and also the Champions League and now we want to end the season the best possible way, with a title, to kick off the next season with a lot of desire."
Guardiola has led Barca to 13 titles since taking charge of the Blaugrana's first team in 2008.
