JD's Betting Blog: Backing West Ham and Hearts to end the season with victories

JD's Betting Blog: Backing West Ham and Hearts to end the season with victories

Latest Fabregas: Barcelona do not like to complain to the press Previous

JD is finishing the domestic season with a look back at how the European leagues were settled and has two tips for Saturday's finals in England and Scotland

Last weekend illustrated the allure and drama of the beautiful game that we love and follow. In one of the most dramatic ends to a football season in history, Sergio Aguero scored in injury time to hand Manchester City their first League title in 42 years.

It was a cruel way for Manchester United to lose their title as it seemed it was heading back to Old Trafford as Manchester City toiled against a spirited QPR and looked beaten until the clocked ticked into injury time. Roberto Mancini's men are 13/10 (2.30) with Sportingbet to retain their title next year.

With the experience they have gained and with some expected high profile signings in the summer, that 13/10 (2.30) may seem very big come August.

It has been a wonderful season all over Europe. Juventus became the first Italian team to go through a league season unbeaten in a 38-game format.

It has been an extraordinary act of genius from Antonio Conte as it is a Juventus team that have their imperfections, but, through his own tactical acumen and motivational powers, he has achieved something that can never be beaten, only equalled.

Real Madrid are worthy champions of Spain as they have been the best and most consistent team. Barcelona and all of the joy and brilliance they have brought us, saw their efforts catch with up with them.

Success brings its own demands and the amount of matches their stars have had to play at a level we have never seen before finally has taken its toll.

Sportingbet are evens (2.0) on Barcelona winning back the Liga title next season. Much will depend how Tito Vilanova settles into his new role as head coach so it is probably worth reserving judgement in the betting markets for now.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Chelsea can become the first London team to win the Champions League with victory over Bayern Munich. There has been a slight drift on the Bayern Munich price over the past week in some quarters.

It is largely due to their German cup final drubbing at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. My own view is that I would not read too much into that and you can be sure that the Bavarians will be fully prepared.

They have home advantage and the cup final defeat will do them no harm and give them a healthy dose of self evaluation before their biggest match of the season.

The 5/6 (1.83) about them beating Chelsea in 90 minutes is about right but it would be foolish to write off the London team as they surprised the world by overcoming Barcelona in the semi-final.
