AZ's Poulsen excited at prospect of playing for Ajax

The Dutch champions have signalled their intention to sign the left-back after Boilesen's hamstring injury left the side looking for alternatives
AZ defender Simon Poulsen has affirmed that playing in the Champions League with Ajax would be a great opportunity, as the Eredivisie champions reportedly consider a move for the left-back.

The Danish international has played 85 matches with AZ since 2008 but has not agreed a new contract with the club and his current deal expires in the summer. The two Ajax left-backs Nicolai Boilesen and Daley Blind were seen as adequate cover for the position, but Boilesen's hamstring injury has left the side scrambling for reinforcements in the position for next season; meaning a free transfer approach for Poulsen could be an option for Frank de Boer's men.

Poulsen sees playing in the Champions League as a positive, but he is most attracted by the style of play that De Boer has overseen at Ajax.

"To play in the Champions League is a plus. But the style of play - attacking - and the chance of playing is what I find important," the Dane stated to the Telegra about the prospect of playing for Ajax.

The 27-year-old will be hoping to add to his 16 caps for Denmark at the European Championships in the summer.
