Barcelona boss Guardiola visits Abidal in hospital

The former Olympique Lyonnais defender is recovering after the serious procedure he underwent, and the Blaugrana head coach became the first non-family member to see him

Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola paid a visit to Eric Abidal in hospital on Friday after the player's liver transplant operation earlier this week.

The France international went under the knife, and is said to be recovering well after the serious procedure.

The Blaugrana trainer was recognised by the hospital staff, and it is believed that the coach imparted messages of support from the rest of the Barcelona playing and coaching staff.

Guardiola spent twenty minutes with Abidal and his family, and wished the player a speedy recovery from his second life-threatening operation in as many years.

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell announced that the France international was 'recovering well' from the latest procedure.

The Catalans are currently locked in a heated battle for the title with Real Madrid, and visit Levante on Saturday.
