thumbnail Hello,

The former Barcelona player feels his side were lacking in midfield, stating his charges lacked the creativity needed to better the Amsterdam giants

PSV coach Phillip Cocu has expressed his disappointment at his side’s performance during their 2-0 defeat to Ajax on Sunday.

The Eindhoven side were well beaten by their fierce rivals at the Amsterdam ArenA as Ismail Aissati and Siem de Jong both scored to inflict PSV’s first defeat under new coach Cocu.

Speaking after the match, the 41-year-old highlighted his side’s inability to hold onto possession and use it to good effect against their victorious opponents.

“Defensively we played well,” the former player told reporters. “But you have to hold onto possession, otherwise you cannot create chances.

“I don't know whether it was fear, but we were unable to find the available midfielder when building up play. That's the biggest cause for our loss."

He continued: “Also, I thought that Ajax were very aggressive. We showed more initiative after the goal, but we should have done that earlier.”

PSV are now four points behind Ajax and five adrift of the league leaders AZ.
