Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has revealed that promising youngster Marc Muniesa will be promoted to the first team at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

The 19-year-old defender is a product of the illustrious Barcelona youth academy, but has been featuring mainly for with club's B team.

However, Muniesa will make the move to the senior side this summer as Zubizarreta feels he is ready to make the next step in his career.

"He [Muniesa] will be part of Pep Guardiola's squad next term," Zubizarreta said in an interview with RAC1.

Muniesa made his first team debut in May 2009 at the age of 17, but was shown a straight red card during his first official appearance for the Catalans. The centre-back has a contract until the summer of 2014 at Camp Nou.

Starting in November and continuing through to the middle of February, Goal.com is publishing exclusive extracts from Graham Hunter's highly-anticipated new book, 'Barca: The Making of the Greatest Team in the World'. The last extract looked at how Barca suffered rare disappointment at the hands of Real Madrid in a gripping finale to last season's Copa del Rey. Don't miss it!
