A brave and clearly quite rich punter has placed a $10,000 bet on the Socceroos to beat France in their World Cup opener in Kazan on June 16.
The bet placed with TAB stands to collect $110,000 should Australia pull off an upset with the green and gold currently valued at $11 of claiming the win on Saturday.
The punter isn't alone in his optimism either it would seem with the Socceroos chances of stunning the French reducing considerably since the end of May.
"As the tournament has got closer, there has been a lot more support for the Australians and they have firmed from $17 to $11 since May 28 to win the game,” TAB’s Nick Quinn said.
In terms of greatest World Cup upsets based on odds, Switzerland's 1-0 win over Spain in 2010 will take some beating with the Swiss valued at $15 before taking down the eventual champions.
The Socceroos have declared they are ready to take on the French with coach Bert van Marwijk urging his men to play with guts in search of unlikely glory.
