NAC
0 1 GRONINGEN

A late goal from Michael de Leeuw was enough to give Groningen three points as they beat NAC on Friday night.

De Leeuw had the first real opportunity of the match when Jelle ten Rouwelaar batted down a shot which landed in front of the midfielder who could only hit the post. Shortly afterwards, Mats Seuntjens scuppered a chance when he received a pass from Anthony Lurling and shot towards goal, but it was kept out by Groningen defender Lorenzo Burnet.

Both sides created chances in the second half but the deadlock wasn't broken until after 81 minutes when Mitchell Schet sent a fantastic cross into the box which found De Leeuw at the back post, and the 26-year-old volleyed past Ten Rouwelaar to steal the win.

RKC
4 0 UTRECHT

RKC ended their eight game winless streak in style as they beat Utrecht 4-0 to end Jan Wouters’s side’s four game unbeaten run.

The hosts took the lead after just five minutes when Florian Jozefzoon passed to Teddy Chevalier inside the box, and the 25-year-old knocked it into the net.

Utrecht began to impose themselves on the match as they saw more of the ball but were unable to threaten the Waalwijk club’s goal.

RKC managed to double their lead with 16 minutes left on the clock when Chevalier crossed deep into the box for Jozefzoon, who controlled it before blasting into the bottom corner.

Chevalier was involved once again as he set up Imad Najah who tapped in the third goal before Sander Duits made it 4-0 with a well-struck free kick.

ADO
2 2 AZ

ADO and AZ shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Kyocera Stadion on Saturday night.

The Alkmaar side took the lead 22 minutes into the match when Erik Falkenburg latched onto a Nick Viergever through ball and rounded the keeper before rolling it over the line.

Defender Etienne Reijnen gifted ADO with the equaliser as Charlton Vicento pounced onto his awful back-pass and slotted past AZ goalkeeper Esteban.

ADO were awarded a penalty 13 minutes later when Nick Viergever brought down Rydell Poepon inside the box, and Danny Holla stepped up to convert it and put the hosts in the lead.

Jozy Altidore brought his side level after 64 minutes as Donny Gorter teed it up for the American striker who rescued a point for his side with a beautiful volley.

VVV
4 1 WILLEM II

VVV lifted themselves off of the foot of the table as they leapfrogged Willem II with a 4-1 mauling of the Tilburg side.

It took 27 minutes for VVV to go ahead when Guus Joppen backheeled to Marcel Seip inside the box and the defender curled it round David Meul and into the net.

Robert Cullen made it 2-0 early in the second half as he shook off his marker to deflect Bryan Linssen’s cross in at the front post.

The Venlo club went 3-0 up six minutes later through Linssen, who he took advantage of some poor Willem II defending to knock it past Meul before Oguzhan Turk killed the game off after 72 minutes.

Virgil Misidjan netted a consolation for the visitors two minutes later but by that time there was no fight left in the newly promoted side.

NEC
3 2 HERACLES

NEC recorded their first home win of the season with a 3-2 triumph over Heracles.

Both sides showed their attacking intent from the start as they created chances in the opening five minutes. Melvin Platje nearly opened the scoring for the hosts with a vicious shot which was saved by Remko Pasveer, before Heracles forward Luis Pedro saw a shot fly just wide of the NEC post.

Rick ten Voorde broke the deadlock after 24 minutes, diverting Leroy George’s corner past Pasveer.

Samuel Armenteros was kept out twice in the first half but he was not to be denied in the second as he turned the match on its head with two goals inside the first 11 minutes of the restart. First, rounding off a nice move by slamming home Lerin Duarte’s pass, before sending Willie Overtoom’s cross into the corner.

NEC fought back, however, and drew level once again with a wonderful George free-kick five minutes, before regaining their lead and collecting the three points through another Ten Voorde goal.

VITESSE
0 0 TWENTE

Vitesse passed up an opportunity to pull themselves within a point of Twente as the two sides played out a goalless draw at the Gelredome on Sunday.

The hosts dominated possession from the early stages but were unable to get in behind the Twente defence and test Nikolay Mihaylov.

Both sides created many more opportunities in the second half, with Marco van Ginkel having the best chance of the game after 55 minutes. Vitesse broke on the counter attack and Van Ginkel burst forward from his own half, passing to Wilfried Bony, who returned it to the 19-year-old with a great through ball, putting the midfielder one-on-one with Mihaylov, but the goalkeeper rushed off his line to block the shot.

Twente began to push forward late in the game in an attempt to snatch a winner with Luc Castaignos and Dusan Tadic firing shots towards goal but the deadlock could not be broken and the points were shared.

FEYENOORD
5 2 RODA

Feyenoord took all three points from their seven goal thriller with Roda in De Kuip as they beat the Kerkrade side 5-2.

It took just 20 seconds for the first goal to be scored as Graziano Pelle gathered a Daryl Janmaat pass and curled it straight into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Roda pulled level 11 minutes later, though, as Sanharib Malki rose unchallenged to head Amin Affane’s cross past Kostas Lamprou.

Pelle put Feyenoord back in the ascendancy after 25 minutes, flicking Ruben Schaken’s diagonal cross over Filip Kurto. The Rotterdam side doubled their lead ten minutes later. This time it was Lex Immers who squeezed in behind the last defender to meet a Schaken cross identical to that which created the previous goal.

Bart Biemans snatched one back for the visitors just before half time as he headed in an Affane cross. Biemans was then sent off in the second half as he brought down Immers, who failed to convert the resultant spot kick.

A minute later, however, Jordy Clasie made it 4-2 when by taking a Pelle pass in his stride and smacking it into the bottom corner. Then, Janmaat scored Feyenoord’s fifth as Wesley Verhoek put him through on goal with a perfectly weighted pass and the right-back tapped past Kurto.

ZWOLLE
2 4 AJAX

Viktor Fischer was the star of the show as he netted twice in his full debut for Ajax as they beat Zwolle 4-2 at the IJsseldelta Stadion.

Ajax were by far the better team and it took just 12 minutes for the reigning champions to open the scoring, with defender Toby Alderweireld picking up a loose ball from a corner and beating Diederik Boer.

Fischer opened his account for Frank de Boer’s side 20 minutes later when Christian Eriksen squared to the teenager to fire into the net. The young Dane scored his second just after the break as he headed a Derk Boerrigter cross past the Zwolle goalkeeper.

Last season’s NextGen Series finalist had a hand in his side’s fourth as substitute Jody Lukoki charged down the right flank and crossed to Fischer who cut back for Siem de Jong to kill the game off.

Zwolle grabbed two consolation strikes late on as Wiljan Pluim’s cross was headed past Kenneth Vermeer by Denni Avdic and just two minutes later the deficit was cut again when Jesper Drost fired into the top corner with the help of a deflection off of Eyong Enoh’s head.

PSV
5 1 HEERENVEEN

PSV went top of the Eredivisie with a 5-1 win over Heerenveen in Eindhoven.

The home side thoroughly deserved the three points but it was Marco van Basten’s side who took an early lead when Christian Kum’s cross bounced over Atiba Hutchinson and fell to Daniel de Ridder, who smashed it past Boy Waterman.

PSV equalised almost immediately afterwards when Kevin Strootman drove into the Heerenveen box and unleashed a shot but it was deflected out for a corner.

The hosts eventually found the net when Tim Matavz passed to Luciano Narsingh inside the danger area, and the winger did very well to lift it over Heerenveen goalkeeper Brian Vandenbussche to make it 1-1.

PSV went ahead in the second period when Dries Mertens sent it curling into the net from outside the box. Georginio Wijnaldum netted PSV’s third after Strootman’s cross found him unmarked in the box. The midfielder’s initial effort was saved by Vandenbussche but he was able to head in the rebound.

Dick Advocaat’s side continued to dominate the game and inflicted further damage on their opponents with a late Tim Matavz double to make it 5-1, helping PSV leapfrog Twente.
