Needless to say, much more is expected from the South Africans who so far have failed to build on their respectable showing on the world stage two years ago. Now they must travel to Gaborone to face an equally desperate Botswana side this weekend. The Zebras disappointed in a similar fashion this past weekend, losing 2-0 away to the Central African Republic in what was the C.A.R's first ever World Cup qualifier victory.

South Africa will be without defender Tshepo Masilela following a knee injury sustained against Ethiopia, while Siyabonga Sangweni is also unavailable through injury. Thulani Serero returns to the team after missing the match against the east Africans following the death of his father.

Botswana will take on Bafana without SuperSport's Mogogi Gabonamong, who withdrew from the team citing family problems as the reason behind his decision to opt out of the match.

• South Africa were not present at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations tournament after they failed to qualify.

• Bafana will be the home team when the country hosts the 2013 Afcon in January next year, and they are expected to take part in a number of friendly international matches as a result of their open calendar in order to prepare for the tournament on home soil.

• South Africa have qualified for the World Cup on three occasions. Twice through the qualifiers (1998, 2002) and once as hosts (2010).

• Botswana are known as the Zebras, and they are South Africa's neighbours to the north.

• The Zebras were the first team to qualify for the 2012 Afcon, and it was also their first ever qualification for a major tournament.

• Botswana and South Africa are members of Cosafa, the Council for Southern Africa Football Associations.
