ACL preview: Adelaide United v Pohang Steelers

United have not played for points since their 1-0 loss to Pohang on April 3, while the Steelers are hardly in the best of form. Will home advantage be the difference?

Goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic's uncharacteristic fumble was the difference between Adelaide United and Pohang Steelers when the two sides clashed in their first AFC Champions League match on April 3.

With the two to meet again on Wednesday - in United's first match since that 1-0 loss to the Steelers - Galekovic and Adelaide will be keen to atone and return to winning ways.

But how will United's relative inactivity affect them?  They have played several friendlies to keep their match sharpness up, but Pohang has had K-League commitments to keep them busy.

Not that the Steelers have tasted much success since their victory over Adelaide, losing their last two league matches after having previously won four games in succession.

Adelaide will be without midfielder Dario Vidosic, who has not recovered from a hamstring strain picked up against Pohang in South Korea.

Reds coach John Kosmina was hopeful the 25-year-old would be right to play but has opted to take the cautious approach, with two group-stage games remaining after Wednesday's clash.

Pohang are unlikely to make too many changes to the side that beat the Reds in the last match, although striker Kim Dae-Ho - the scorer of the winner against United - has been in impressive form of late and could force his way into the starting side.

The match is a vital game for both sides, with the winner to all-but assure themselves a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament.

United and Pohang have six points and equal goal difference to lead the group, which is at the half-way point of its matchday programme.

United would have lost little confidence from the loss to Pohang, while the Steelers would have gained some from their win over the Reds.

It sets the scene for an intriguing battle at Hindmarsh Stadium.
