Panama can qualify for next summer's World Cup finals by beating the United States in Orlando on Friday night.

Following a loss against Costa Rica and a draw against Honduras, the Americans find themselves a point behind Panama with two games left to play.

As a result, the U.S. currently occupy the inter-confederation play-off spot and must at the very least avoid defeat at Orlando City Stadium to keep their hopes of finishing in the top three - and qualifying automatically - alive.

GAME PREVIEW

The table looks perilous for the United States, with Panama a point ahead of them and Mexico and Costa Rica well out of reach with just two games to play.

But while it certainly has not been a smooth qualification process for the Americans, their fate remains in their own hands.

If Bruce Arena's side can win this match, things look a lot better: they face the weakest team still left at this stage, Trinidad & Tobago, in their final match while Panama host Costa Rica, who have only lost away at Mexico.

A USA team that has won two of their eight qualifying games so far, though, can certainly not afford to be relaxed.

Having to play through the play-off would be a nightmare for the States, with the scheduled dates clashing with crucial MLS postseason matches the likes of Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore are expecting to be involved in.

It would also not say much about the ability of this team to make any noise in Russia next year.
