Pochettino claims Sanchez can be one of the best in the world

Mauricio Pochettino is thrilled to have new signing Davinson Sanchez in the team.

The Colombian arrived in London on Wednesday in a long-anticipated deal worth a reported €40 million, which could rise to €42m with add-ons, and he personally called the move a "huge step forward" in his career.

Having stared for Ajax, playing 47 times in the 2016-17 season as the club finished second in the Eredivisie and reached the Europa League final, the centre-back comes in as a record signing for Tottenham.

The Spurs boss believes he will fit right in and can grow into being a special player.

"He played regularly at Ajax," Pochettino told Sky Sports. "Played the Europa League final against Manchester United. I think he's young but with amazing history and background.

"I like his personality and how he is aggressive, he is fast, he will fit for us very well,

"Davinson is with us because a lot of clubs were interested in him but he decided to join us.

"It's a massive opportunity because we believe he will be one of the best centre-backs in the world in the future. That is why we made the effort to try to sign him."

While the centre-back has all the tools to be a top player, his new manager knows the transition is not always simple.

"First of all the challenge is to adapt yourself. I moved with my wife, we were not scared, but you are waiting because you don't know," he said.

"From America, you come to Europe, you don't know what you will find here. But him, he's unbelievable: he speaks very good English, and from day one when he arrived I think he is like all the players here.

"Yes, he is very welcome with the team-mates and he is one of us."
