Gilette Brasil Global Tour

Thiago Silva, Willian and Douglas Costa miss out as new faces join the Selecao for October's Brasil Global Tour dates with Saudi Arabia and Argentina

Marcelo and Gabriel Jesus have been handed recalls to the Brazil squad for next month’s Brasil Global Tour double-header versus Saudi Arabia and Argentina.

The Real Madrid defender and the Manchester City forward were the two biggest omissions from last month’s squad as coach Tite trialled a number of fresh faces for his first post-World Cup internationals.

Inter defender Miranda has also returned, as has Man City’s Danilo. Goalkeeper Ederson is back, too, after missing last month’s Brasil Global Tour wins over USA and El Salvador to witness the birth of his child.

Renato Augusto also comes back in after missing the September squad for personal reasons.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) had previously confirmed that, for these two matches, players involved in the Copa do Brasil final will not be eligible for selection, ruling out those from the current semi-finalists.

Flamengo duo Hugo and Lucas Paqueta, and Cruzeiro defender Dede, subsequently drop out.

Thiago Silva (PSG), Felipe (Porto), Flipe Luis (Atletico Madrid), Andreas Pereira (Manchester United) and Willian (Chelsea) were dropped.

Juventus’ Douglas Costa is also missing, with Tite citing the player’s recent indiscipline as the reason for him being cut.

More new faces, then, join another experimental squad as Tite trials new players ahead of next year’s Copa America on home soil.

Olympic gold medalist Wallace has returned in midfield, while young Gremio goalkeeper Phelipe was handed his first ever call-up, as was Bordeaux defender Pablo.

Barcelona forward Malcom is another newcomer who received his first invitation to the senior squad.

Brazil meet Saudi Arabia at King Saud University in Riyadh on October 12 before meeting Argentina at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah on October 16.
