The 34-year-old has secured a loan move to MLS in the hope of cementing his place as Brazil’s no.1 at this year’s World Cup

Toronto FC have confirmed the signing of Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar from Queens Park Rangers.

The 34-year-old joins the club on loan from the Championship club and will be officially unveiled at a press conference slated for 1pm local time at the Kia Training Ground on Friday.

Capped 77 times by the Selecao, coach Luiz Felipe Scolari had already assured Cesar of his place in the World Cup squad but a significant lack of playing time in England had left him concerned that he would lose his starting role.

Despite his fine form as Harry Redknapp’s side were relegated from the English Premier League last season, the former Inter and Flamengo custodian had made just one appearance for the club this season.

On Tuesday the two-time Confederations Cup winner was named in Felipao’s squad for March’s trip to Johannesburg to take on South Africa at Soccer City.
